Samuel Jessurun de Mesquita

Samuel de Mesquita Jessurun ( born June 6 1868 in Amsterdam, † February 11, 1944 in Auschwitz ) was a Dutch artist.

Life

Samuel de Mesquita Jessurun was born in 1868 as the youngest son of Joshua Jessurun de Mesquita and Judith Mendes da Costa. His parents were Portuguese Jews, he had two older siblings (Joseph Jessurun de Mesquita, * September 7, 1865, Anna ). Married was de Mesquita with Elisabeth Pinedo ( born March 12, 1874 † February 11, 1944 )

De Mesquita taught at the Art Academy in Amsterdam. Among his most important pupils is Maurits Cornelis Escher.

Artistic creation

Much of the work was de Mesquitas of MC Escher saved.
