Samuel Ramírez Moreno

Samuel Ramirez Moreno ( born February 22, 1898 in Mexico City, † 1951) was a Mexican psychiatrist and briefly Rector of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México ( UNAM).

Biography

Ramírez, son of Arturo Ramírez and Ramírez de Luz Moreno, visited the Colegio Americano and gained in 1914 at the Escuela Nacional Preparatoria the university entrance. From 1918 to 1924 he studied medicine at the Escuela Nacional de Medicina. During his studies he founded the Pavilion of Neurosífilis ( neurosyphilis pavilion ) of the Manicomio General. As medical director, he worked from 1926 for the Escuela Nacional de Medicina, from 1928 as a professor of neuropsychiatry. He was president of the " Sección psiquiatría y Neurología " ( Department of Psychiatry and Neurology) and belonged from 1929 to 1943 the Department of the Directorate General of Manicomio. From July 27 to August 3, 1944, he served as rector of the UNAM. He is the namesake of the psychiatric hospital Hospital Psiquiatrico " Dr. Samuel Ramirez Moreno ".
