Samuel Sherwood (New York)

Samuel Sherwood (* April 24, 1779 in Kingsbury, New York, † October 31, 1862 in New York City ) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1813 and 1815 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Samuel Sherwood was born during the War of Independence in Kingsbury. He completed his preliminary studies. At the age of 15 he began to study law in Kingston. In 1798 he moved to Delhi, where he continued his studies. His admission to the bar he received in 1800 and then began practicing in Delhi. Politically, he was a member of the Federalist Party.

In the congressional elections of 1812, Sherwood was in the eighth electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Benjamin Pond on March 4, 1813. Since he gave up for reelection in 1814, he retired after the March 3, 1815 out of the Congress.

After his time he took Congress in Delhi his work as a lawyer on. He then moved in 1830 to New York City, where he continued to practice. In 1858 he gave his occupation as a lawyer. He died during the Civil War on October 31, 1862 in New York City and was then buried in the Woodland Cemetery in Delhi.
