Samuel Slater

Samuel Slater ( born June 9, 1768 in Belper, Derbyshire, England; † April 21, 1835 in Webster, Massachusetts, United States) was an early American entrepreneur and industrialist.

He is referred to as the "Father of the American Industrial Revolution ", as it was in the U.S. plans for the so-called Spinning Jenny brought in his emigration at the age of 21 years, a 1764 invented in England spin machine, which laid the foundation for the American textile industry. To this end, he broke the British law prohibiting the carrying of industrial know -how in other nations. In Pawtucket, Rhode Iceland, he convinced his new employer of his knowledge and built from 1793, the first water-powered textile mill in the United States on the model of British plants.

Furthermore, he is considered the " Father of the American Sunday School ", as he set up Bible classes for young people in his works.
