San Blas is a fishing village with about 8500 inhabitants on the Pacific coast of Mexico and capital of the municipality of the same name. It is located between Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlan, in the state of Nayarit to the northwest of the country.

Geography

The village is located on the Pacific coast of Mexico. On a river estuary, a sheltered natural harbor offered. Surrounded is the village of mangrove forest, 16 kilometers from the mouth of the Río Grande de Santiago. Belonging to the municipality of San Blas Maria Islands are about 120 kilometers upstream. The island is located about 60 kilometers Maria Isabelita before San Blas. The state capital of Tepic is 60 kilometers away.

The surrounding communities are Compostela, Xalisco, Villa Hidalgo, Tepic and Santiago Ixcuintla.

History

The settlement has been proven since 1531. 1768 Junipero Serra came to the place where he set off on his trip to California. The official founding date is set for the arrival of Don Manuel Rivera with 116 families to colonize the area. In May of the same year San Blas was declared a Spanish naval base. It was used primarily for supply and communication with the missions in California and beyond. In addition, the cattle is a major economic factor for the city. The development of the population has been declining for many years.

Traffic

San Blas is located on the Mexican coast road, on the Tepic and neighboring communities are accessible by bus or private transport. The shallow-water harbor, smaller sailing ships and pleasure boats start. In the center a 750m long runway for light aircraft is available.
