San Carlos del Zulia is a city and administrative headquarters of the district of Colón in Zulia state. The city is situated on the banks of the River Escalante. The average annual temperature is 28 ° C.

San Carlos del Zulia was founded on March 14, 1778 by Captain Nicolás José Antúnez Pacheco y de la Cruz y Velasco, head of the city of Maracaibo, along with lieutenant Ramón Hernández de la Calle. The Spanish government wanted to exert control over the Motilon Indians of the region.

On March 23, 1778 the first settlers arrived. Rafael Echeverría became the first mayor.

Today the city has about 50,000 inhabitants. There is an airport.

The city is a national road with the city Encontrados (44 km) and El Vigia (59 Km) connected. There are also other ways to corn fields and bananas, as well as livestock fields.
