San Carlos is a city in Uruguay.
Geography
It is located in the south of the department of Maldonado in the sector 2, located about 15 kilometers from the city of Maldonado.
History
The town was founded in 1763 by Spanish governor Pedro Antonio de Cevallos during the colonization of the continent to prevent even to Portuguese colonization of the region. The city is named after the term of his Spanish King Charles III. named in the Spanish spelling Carlos. On December 18, 1929 San Carlos was rated by the law Nr.8559 in the category " Ciudad ".

Education
San Carlos has two secondary schools ( Liceo ). These are the Liceo was founded on June 1, 1921 under the name Colegio Carolino de Enseñanza Secundaria N º 1 de San Carlos " Presbítero Dr. Mariano Soler " and the Liceo N º 2 de San Carlos " Luis Barrios Tassano " ( Founded: 1995).

San Carlos had according to the statistics of the year 2011 27.471 inhabitants, of which 13,161 male and 14,310 female.
