San Giorgio dei Greci

San Giorgio dei Greci is a Greek Orthodox Church in Venice, in the Castello district. Since 1991, San Giorgio seat of the Archdiocese of the Greek Orthodox in Italy.

Middle of the 16th century were living in Venice Orthodox Greeks from the Senate to build their church in the district of Castello, close to the homonymous canal Rio Greci. Architects of the church were Sante Lombardo and Gianna Tonio Chiona.

The complex included a seminary, a girls' school and a convent. In the vicinity of the monastery, which was built by Baldassare Longhena Collegio Flanghini that a testamentary foundation Tommaso Flanghinis from 1644 owes itself and today the Istituto Ellenico ( Hellenic Institute of Byzantine and post- Byzantine Studies in Venice) is home.
