Baldassarre Longhena

Baldassare Longhena (* 1598 (), perhaps in Venice, because his parents lived in Maroggia; ? † February 18, 1682 ) was an Italian architect who worked almost exclusively in Venice and the locations of the lagoon.

He studied with Vincenzo Scamozzi. As one of its most important buildings is considered, built 1631-1687 Church of Santa Maria della Salute, in which most of the shows in addition to the influence of his master Andrea Palladio. It was built for the salvation of the city by a three-year plague. In 1640 he completed the begun by his now deceased masters Procuraties nuove.

1623 he worked on the restructuring of the Giustinian - Lolin Palace. This was followed by a number of churches and church facades, including the cathedral, begun in 1624 in Chioggia, which was rebuilt after a fire.

1648 to 1660 he worked at the Palazzo Belloni BATTAGIA, 1656-1663 at the Chiesa degli Scalzi. He also worked on two other palaces, namely the Ca ' Rezzonico (1667-1682) and the Ca ' Pesaro ( 1659-1682 ). He rarely worked outside Venice, such as in Loreo, Bassano del Grappa or Conegliano.
