San Giuseppe dei Teatini

The Basilica of San Giuseppe dei Teatini is a church in Palermo. It lies on the Via Maqueda, opposite Piazza Pretoria and extends to the south side of the Quattro Canti, where her pre- displays a baroque palace facade.

The church was designed by Giacomo Besio, a member of Theatines and built 1612-1645.

The three ships of the church are separated by marble columns. Adorned the church with frescoes ( inter alia by Guglielmo Borremans ), paintings ( among others by Pietro Novelli ), stucco ( inter alia by Giuseppe Serpotta ) and sculptures ( among others by Ignazio Marabitti ). In the 18th century the church was given by Giuseppe Mariani a dome that is covered with colored ceramic.

Below the church is the church of Santa Maria della Provvidenza, the crypt of San Giuseppe dei Teatini.
