San Liberatore a Maiella

San Liberatore a Maiella is a former monastery in Italy. It is deposited in the municipality Serramonacesca (Province of Pescara) in the Abruzzo region. At this point there since the 9th century predecessors, of which, however, no traces remain. The monastery was a priory of Montecassino, the documentary tradition is kept in the local archive.

History

At the beginning of the 11th century, the present building was erected. It is known as one of the finest medieval architecture ensemble of Abruzzo. The campanile from the 11th century is the oldest in the Abruzzo region.

The church is a unique building whose richness and monumentality in this seclusion surprised and at the same time has such perfect regularity in layout and design, as they rarely found in the province.
