San Pasqual Valley AVA
San Pasqual Valley AVA ( recognized since 23 September 1981) is an American Viticultural Area in the U.S. state of California. The area is located in the administrative area of San Diego County. The area is the fourth oldest American Viticultural Area ( Protected Designation of Origin ) of the United States. Through the cooling influence of the Pacific Ocean, the mean daily temperatures rarely rise above 35 ° C. Together with a sufficiently high temperature difference between day and night as well as the stony ground creates a microclimate that allows the wine yet and in which the vines maintain a good acid backbone. The major varieties are Grenache, Merlot, Sangiovese, Syrah, Tempranillo and Viognier.
