San Pasqual Valley AVA

San Pasqual Valley AVA ( recognized since 23 September 1981) is an American Viticultural Area in the U.S. state of California. The area is located in the administrative area of ​​San Diego County. The area is the fourth oldest American Viticultural Area ( Protected Designation of Origin ) of the United States. Through the cooling influence of the Pacific Ocean, the mean daily temperatures rarely rise above 35 ° C. Together with a sufficiently high temperature difference between day and night as well as the stony ground creates a microclimate that allows the wine yet and in which the vines maintain a good acid backbone. The major varieties are Grenache, Merlot, Sangiovese, Syrah, Tempranillo and Viognier.
