Sandboarding

Sandboarding is a recreational activity similar to snowboarding, but takes place on sand.

This board sport has followers all over the world, but is more in desert areas - in western South America, North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula, especially in the western U.S. - widespread.

The World Cup in the sand boarding was fought from 1990 to 2007 in Germany at Monte Kaolino in Hirschau (Oberpfalz ). The Monte Kaolino is around 120 meters high, has a length of descent of 220 meters and a slope of about 35 degrees. The Monte Kaolino was filled by the Amberg Kaolin, which have here more than 100 years of accumulated silica sand.

The covering of sand boards usually consists of Formica or Laminex. To better glide in the sand, the lower surface of the board can be waxed, usually with paraffin.
