Sandrach

The Sandrach ( in the districts of Aichach -Friedberg and Neuburg -Schrobenhausen Donaumoos - Oh or just called Ach) is a left tributary of the pair, which flows through the districts of Aichach -Friedberg and Neuburg -Schrobenhausen, the city of Ingolstadt and the county Oberpfaffenhofen. The length of the river is about 48 kilometers.

History

The name is derived from Sandrach Sunder Oh, what the southern Ah means. Originally the Sandrach in the area of Ingolstadt the southernmost of the three arms of the Danube and at the same time, the main arm. To 1363, the northern of the three arms was expanded at the direction of Duke Stephen II reasons of trade policy to the main arm by the waters of the southern arm was diverted to the north, among others. From this time the Sandrach marked the main arm of the Danube, is due also the boundary between the diocese boundaries between the dioceses of Eichstätt and Augsburg, which still exists today. For a long time the Sandrach was also a boundary between the two duchies of Bavaria and Pfalz- Neuburg.

Course

The water today Sandrach no longer comes from the Danube, but from the drainage channels of the Danube moss, where the run of Oh begins southwest of Pottmes. Fully straightened it runs on, past Karlshuld after crossover ring, where, apart from numerous straightening, the course of the former southern arm of the Danube follows. Past the Ingolstadt districts Zuchering, Spitalhof, Unterbrunnenreuth and Our Lord opens the now designated as Sandrach river finally north of Manching in the pair.
