Sanna Valkonen

Sanna Valkonen Margit (born 12 December 1977) is a former Finnish footballer. The defender was recently at the Swedish club KIF Örebro under contract and played for the Finnish national team. Valkonen ended her active career in October 2010.

Valkonen began her career at the club Hyvinkää hp. In 1994 she became Finnish Champion with contours Helsinki and then moved to PuiU Helsinki. With PuiU 1996 she won the Finnish Cup. In 1997, she played for Malmin PS and again won the cup competition. Between 1998 and 2002, Valkonen played for HJK Helsinki and won four league championships and the cup. 2001 and 2002, she was elected Player of the Year in Finland. After a short stint with the Boston Renegades, she moved to the Swedish club Umea IK, where she won twice in each case the championship, the trophy and the UEFA Women 's Cup until 2005. After two years with AIK Solna she played since 2007 for KIF Örebro.

On August 30, 1995 Valkonen played against Sweden for the first time for the Finnish national team. She took part in the 2005 European Championships, where she reached the semi-finals with the Finnish selection and with 1:4 lost against Germany.

On 9 March 2009 she surpassed her 114th international game in the match against China at the Algarve Cup in Portugal, the record of Anne Mäkinen and increased it to 26 August at the European Championship on home soil on 120 games. At Algarve Cup 2010, she was not used, so Laura Österberg Kalmari was on 26 February 2010 outdo their record and increase to 122 games. Valkonen scored seven goals so far.
