Shantiniketan ( Bengali: শান্তিনিকেতন, Santiniketan, literally: abode of peace; formerly: Santiniketan ) is a town in Birbhum district in the Indian state of West Bengal.

Rabindranath Thakur gave the place its name and founded here in 1901, the Visva - Bharati University. The house Thakur is now a museum.

Shantiniketan thrives on tourism and has many festivals. It is the birthplace of Nobel laureate Amartya Sen.
