São Carlos National Theatre

The Teatro Nacional de São Carlos ( also Opera de São Carlos ) is the opera house in Lisbon. It is located in the southern part of the Portuguese capital, more precisely in the Old Town district of Chiado, Rua Serpa Pinto No. 9

The building was completed on 30 July 1793. The architect was José da Costa e Silva.

History

• August 8, 1828 - premiere of the opera Gabriella di Vergy by Saverio Mercadante
• 1884 - Introduction of the Theatrophon
• For the season 2008/2009 has been principal conductor of the orchestra Julia Jones
• 2010, the conductor Martin André became artistic director of the opera house

• April 1948 - 1950 Italian opera singer Ebe Stignani and the Italian opera singer Mario del Monaco guesting together several times.
• 1952 - The German opera singer Georgina Milinkovic of guest appearances in the role of Herodias
• 1961 performance of the opera singer Colette Lorand as Konstanze in The Abduction from the Seraglio by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
• 1980s (exact period unknown) - The Swiss opera singer Elisabeth Glauser a guest.
• 1980s (exact period unknown) - The Finnish opera singer Heikki Siukola guest at the theater
• 1986 - The German opera singer Klaus König guest performance as Florestan
• Between 1994 and 2002 (exact period unknown) worked Aniara Amos as part of their master classes as assistant director of Peter Konwitschny
