São Carlos National Theatre
The Teatro Nacional de São Carlos ( also Opera de São Carlos ) is the opera house in Lisbon. It is located in the southern part of the Portuguese capital, more precisely in the Old Town district of Chiado, Rua Serpa Pinto No. 9
The building was completed on 30 July 1793. The architect was José da Costa e Silva.
History
- August 8, 1828 - premiere of the opera Gabriella di Vergy by Saverio Mercadante
- 1884 - Introduction of the Theatrophon
- For the season 2008/2009 has been principal conductor of the orchestra Julia Jones
- 2010, the conductor Martin André became artistic director of the opera house
