São Miguel das Missões

São Miguel das Missões is a city in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil, with an area of ​​1229.844 km ² and 7514 inhabitants ( 2006).

Jesuit reductions

From 1607 to 1768, missionaries of the Jesuits in the triangle of southern Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina - as well as the area around Posadas known - together with the Guarani Indians many missions, the so-called Jesuit reductions. São Miguel is one of the seven missions ( Sete Povos ) of the Jesuits.
