São Roque do Pico has 3394 inhabitants (as at 30 June 2011) 142.4 km ².

History

After the slow onset of colonization of the island of Pico from the 1460 Flame Josse Van Huerter received in 1466 permission to found settlements here. The circle Lajes do Pico was created in 1501 and covered the entire island. 1542, we put that circle São Roque do Pico new, by elimination and reorganization of municipalities of the previous circle. 1732, another district was created, Madalena. Because the same procedure and by partitions from the previous two circles

Circle

São Roque do Pico is the administrative seat of the homonymous district ( concelho ). The other two counties on the island are in the south Lajes do Pico and to the west Madalena.
