Sarah Helmick State Recreation Site

The Sarah Helmick State Recreation Site is a 33 -acre state park in the U.S. state of Oregon. He is the oldest state park in Oregon.

Plant

The park is located 9 km south of Monmouth in Polk County on Highway 99W on the banks of the River Luckiamute. The park has picnic tables, standing on a meadow under a majestic old Douglas firs, poplars, maples and other trees. For groups, there are two group picnic areas with up to 150 seats, electricity, water and sanitation. Along the river there is a short walk, the river can be fished mainly for trout.

History

The first two acres of land were donated to the park on February 15, 1922 by Sarah Helmick and her son James of the Oregon State Highway Commission as a park, which is the oldest State Park Oregon. Sarah Helmick was a pioneer, which is drawn in 1845 by Iowa over the Oregon Trail to Oregon. Originally, the park was used as a campsite for tourists along the highway 99 The park was expanded by the purchase of an artillery shooting range from the Second World War and by further donations to 1985 to its present size and now serves as a day trip destination.
