Sartorius muscle

The sartorius muscle (Latin for " sartorius " ) is one of the front skeletal muscles of the thigh. The lean muscle runs from the anterior superior iliac spine to the ilium of the pelvis on the front and inside of the thigh up to the inner side of the tibia, or more precisely to the pes anserinus superficialis.

In the dog consists of two parts of the muscle ( pars cranial and caudal ). For animals for slaughter the muscle is part of the upper shell.

Function

The sartorius muscle bends two joints: the hip joint and the knee joint. In addition, it pulls the thigh outward ( abduction) and rotate the leg inward. In counteraction by the abductors of the hip joint, it allows concurrent execution of thigh rotation and flexion of the knee joint and thus the taking of so-called " tailor seat ," which is eponymous for the muscle.
