Sarzeau

Sarzeau ( bret.: Sarzhav ) is a commune with 7688 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Morbihan in the Brittany region. It belongs to the community association Communauté de communes de la peninsula de Rhuys.

History

Attractions

The Château de Suscinio castle dates from the 13th century. The weir bay window and the input date from the 15th century, the pigeon house of the 14th century. Excavations in 1975 found in several meters depth decorated terracotta floor tiles from the late 13th and early 14th century. The tiles are now in the main building.

The Kerlevenan castle was built in the late 18th century (from 1784) by architect Jacques -François Jouanne for Joseph -Armand de Gouvello from granite quarried stone. The stables and the garden with Chinese Pavilion and Temple de l' amour were completed around 1785 by Jouanne. The columns and other ornaments are made of limestone. The work had to be interrupted because of the French Revolution (1789-1799) and were only resumed in 1814. The architect Augustin Caristie completed the west front in 1829., The Temple de l' amour was rebuilt in the late 19th century a chapel.
