Sashiko stitching

In Sashiko (Japanese刺し子) is a textile Verziertechnik. In this technique the so-called running stitch is used to produce designs. Sashiko is originally from Japan, a repair technique to repair damaged clothing.

In traditional Sashiko is worked mainly blue and white with the colors. Either dark blue base and white embroidery thread or vice versa. The materials may be different. There are special yarns for Sashiko. However, it is also normal pearl cotton for embroidery. As to embroidering material are all cotton and linen fabrics. Also silk can be embroidered.

The simple stitch - the meaning of the word Sashiko is also sticks - already start small children to embroider pre-cut stencils in kindergarten.

Of course, it is also allowed to use other colors except white and blue.
