Sassafras

Sassafras ( Sassafras albidum )

Sassafras is a genus of plants of the laurel family ( Lauraceae ). It includes three species of which occur one in eastern North America and two in China.

Description

The leaves are alternate and pinnately can be provided and entire or with three main nerves, and lobed. The inflorescences are in the axils of transition leaves, there are Botryoide that are sometimes almost doldenartig. The blooms are triple and can be unisexual or bisexual, at least apparently. The bloom are the same diverse and in the fruit not resistant. Of the three circles of three stamens in the inner circle at the base of each dust sheet a pair of glands is formed. The stamens are longer than the anthers. This may be twice or vierkammerig and all stamen circles outward. In vierkammerigen anthers the pollen sacs are arranged in two pairs, one above the other. A fourth circle of sterile stamens ( staminodes ) is weak or missing. The base of the flower is small and flat, in a purely male flowers lack the punch. The fruit is at a weak fruit cups, which merges into the thickened stalk.
