Mississippi River

The bridge was demolished and replaced by a new building.

The Sauk Rapids Bridge was a 172 meters long, twelve feet wide span arch bridge in steel truss design, which spanned the Mississippi River, linking the cities of St. Cloud and Sauk Rapids in the U.S. state of Minnesota.

It was built in 1942 and designed by the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The bridge had three fields that were supported by two pillars. The building, which has a maximum range was about 53 meters, crossed the Mississippi River about 700 meters below the rapids of the Sauk River. The river flows more quickly at this point and the water is stirred up.

The completion and commissioning of the Sauk Rapids Regional Bridge on October 23, 2007, the Sauk Rapids Bridge was closed to traffic. In November, the demolition of the old bridge began.

After the collapse of the I-35W Mississippi River bridge in Minneapolis on August 1, 2007, the Governor of Minnesota, Tim Pawlenty had ordered a review of the Sauk Rapids Bridge. At the bridge, which had a similar design principle as the collapsed, no problems were detected.
