Saunders-Roe Princess

The Saunders -Roe ( Saro ) SR.45 Princess was a large flying boat.

Immediately after the Second World War began Saunders -Roe with the development. Difficulties with the engines delayed the first flight until August 1952 until the termination of the project, they were not resolved. To the required ten engines ever to accommodate in the wing, the fuselage, the next eight are coupled to two (ie, two engines, each driving an opposed pair of propeller, similar to the Bristol Brabazon ).

Due to the overrun of the budget from three to eleven million pounds, other technical difficulties such as problems with the speed-sensitive servo control and the fact that the future of civil aviation would include land-based passenger jets, BOAC lost interest in the project.

A total of three cars were built; the last Princess was scrapped in 1967.
