Division

Sabhar ( Bengali: সাভার, Sābhār, English: Savar ) is a city in Bangladesh, about 30 km north- west of Dhaka's outskirts away. 129,000 inhabitants live on about 280 km ².

History

1912, the town was founded as a police station. In 1983 he received the status of Upazila. In Sabhar is also the monument Jatiyo Sriti Shoudho, dedicated to the martyrs of the Bangladeshi War of Independence.

In a building collapse on April 24, 2013 more than 1,127 people were killed and at least 2,438 injured.

Facilities

In Sabhar is the Jahangirnagar University, which is known both for its scenic location as a tourist attraction, as well as numerous Anflugort of wintering migratory birds here.

Reactor

In Sabhar is the only nuclear reactor of Bangladesh. It involves a research reactor TRIGA Mark II with the name, which was supplied by General Atomics and is operated by the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission. The 3 MW reactor is reported to the IAEA.

The TRIGA reactor was developed in the 1950s as part of the " Atoms for Peace " project and is a research reactor in numerous countries.
