Săveni

Săveni is a town in the district of Botosani in Romania.

Location

Săveni lies in the Moldavian Plain ( Câmpia Moldovei ), in the valley of the river Başeu, a right tributary of the Prut. The county town of Botosani is located about 30 km southwest.

History

Săveni in 1546 - first mentioned - the reign of the Moldavian Prince Petru Rareş. The existence of today eingemeindeten Bozieni place is occupied since 1432. Around the 18th century, many Jews settled. 1818 Săveni was granted market rights in 1859 it was a local administrative center, 1950 parish seat. Since 1968 Săveni is a city.

The main economic activities are agriculture, food, textile and construction industries.

Population

1930 lived in the town of about 5000 people, of whom about one-third Jewish, the rest of other faiths. As of the 2002 census, 8145 inhabitants were registered in Săveni, including 7981 Romanians, Roma 155, and 4 people of the Jewish faith. 2011 were among the 6,999 residents, 6,424 Romanians, 183 Roma and remaining without ethnic information.

Traffic

Săveni has no rail connection. Several times a day there are bus connections to Iasi. Through the city along the national road (drum National) DN 29 extends from Suceava to Manoleasa.
