Savoy Theatre

The Savoy Theatre was built by Richard D' Oyly Carte on the site of the old Savoy Palace in London and opened on 10 October 1881. The Savoy Theatre was the first public building, which was completely connected to the electricity grid and is therefore equipped with electric light.

The theater was first as a site of action for Arthur Sullivan and William Schwenck Gilbert, their works are today known as the Savoy Operas therefore.

Some years later, the Savoy Hotel was built next to the theater.
