The Saxetbach is a creek on the territory of the municipality Saxeten near Interlaken. He is a left tributary to the mountain.

Course

The Saxetbach rises south of the village Saxeten and flows near Wilderswil the Lütschen. It forms above the lake close canyon.

Canyoning disaster

The canyon of Saxetbaches is known for the events on July 27, 1999, when a group of tourists while canyoning in the gorge of a 2 -meter-high flash flood has been detected. It drowned 21 people. These came from Australia, New Zealand, England, South Africa and Switzerland. This accident has already claimed the most casualties while canyoning.

Two years later, six managers of today resolved adventure agency that led the group of tourists declared guilty of manslaughter because they did not judge appropriately the risks. As a result of this misfortune security measures were tightened while canyoning in Switzerland.
