Scharnitz Abbey

The monastery Scharnitz is a former Benedictine monastery in Mittenwald in Bavaria in the diocese of Freising.

History

The St. Peter and Paul consecrated monastery was founded by Reginperht and Irminfried, members of the local noble family of the Huosi, before 763. Between 769 and 772, the monastery moved on the advice of the Bishop of Freising to Arbeo Schlehdorf monastery on Lake Kochel.
