Scherkonde

BW

The Scherkonde is a stream that the communities Großbrembach, Kleinbrembach, Vogelsberg, Orlishausen and Frohsdorf flows through on its way through the Thuringian basin and flows into the Lossa.

As part of the new line Erfurt-Leipzig/Halle the Scherkondetal was built in 2008.

It rises in the local situation of Wohlsborn northeast of Weimar on the northern slope of the Etter Mountain and flows first in a northerly direction before it turns to the north-west at Großbrembach. Here, the watercourse flows through each north of Schwerstedt and herb home two smaller lakes. The total run covers about 22 km. On their way the Scherkonde is to flood protection purposes dammed twice to the dams Großbrembach and Frohsdorf. Furthermore, the creek is mostly straightened and therefore deemed to be very monotonous.
