Schifflange

Schifflingen ( Luxembourgish Schëffleng, French ship Lange) is a municipality in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, in the canton Esch -sur-Alzette.

Ship Lange is one of the district area fro the smallest communities in the country, but is, in terms of the population, in ninth place. New residential areas and commercial areas are being created so that the 10,000 -inhabitant mark is exceeded in the foreseeable future.

Nature, culture, history

The " Schëfflénger Bierg " is developed by an eight -kilometer trail that starts at the sports center / swimming pool, a recreational area. The mountain is located south of Schifflingen and consists of hills with beech forest on limestone. Their excavation and Aufschüttungsflächen still testify, however, from the earlier use by the mining industry. In the former spoil heaps there is dry grass, which is particularly remarkable by the presence of orchids.

A geological outcrop exposes the calcareous sandstone formations of the upper Lias visible; but this only included in Differdange pool Minetteablagerungen. On the ship Linger mountain Minette bearing strata are higher, namely in the lower formations of the Dogger. The reduction in gray Minette was from 1892 to 1927 in the " Great Minière ". The tunnel was blown up by the German Wehrmacht, to prevent hid resisters there. Built in 1865 Metz & Cie " Metzerschmelz " at the foothills of Lallinger mountain.
