Features

Butterfly

The wingspan of medium-sized butterfly is about 32 to 36 millimeters. The coloration of the forewing varies from brownish gray to black-gray. The midfield stands out strikingly whitish. The wavy line is whitish. Ring, kidney as well as PTO blemishes are striking double large and blackish. On the whitish hind wings a big black center spot and a broad, dark, sharply defined seam band with an elongated bright spot can be seen.

Caterpillar, and chrysalis

Adults caterpillars are green, show a blackish dorsal line and dark taped side stripes and big, black spots. The doll is slim, light brown in color and has four strong bristles at the short cremaster.

Distribution and habitat

The distribution of sagebrush Blüteneule stretching from North Africa to southern Europe, Asia Minor and across Central Asia to Mongolia and on to China, Japan and Korea. In addition, the species occurs in North America. She wanders occasionally over the Alps, Pyrenees and Carpathians to the north and was even detected in the UK, Norway and Finland. The species inhabits mainly sagebrush steppes, grassy heaths and warm relationships.

Way of life
