The plant genus of the pepper trees ( Schinus ) belongs to the family Anacardiaceae ( Anacardiaceae ). The home is located in Central and South America from Mexico to Argentina. They tolerate drought very well and are often cultivated for their elegant habit. All Schinus species are frost sensitive and require a minimum temperature of 5 ° C. The attractive stone fruits are used in some species as a spice.

Description

Schinus species grow as trees or shrubs. The change-constant leaves are pinnate. Stipules absent.

There shall be terminated, Rispige inflorescences with bracts. The small flowers are whitish and fünfzählig with double perianth. The annular disc is wide. There are two circles, each with five stamens present. Are formed spherical drupes.

System

The genus name Schinus was first published in 1753 by Carl Linnaeus in Species Plantarum, 1, pp. 388-389. Type species Schinus molle L. is a synonym for Schinus L. Duvaua Kunth. They are classified in the subfamily of Anacardioideae.
