Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Norburg

The part of the Duchy of Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg- Norburg emerged from a side branch of the House of Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg. The area Norburg (also: Nordborg and North Castle ) is located on the island of Als.

Historical Overview

Around 1580, the younger Brunder the Danish King John took over the island. When he died in 1622, the country was divided among his sons, they were like her father to the so-called divided gentlemen. Thus, the northern part of Als came first to Johann Adolf, who thus became the first Duke of Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg- Norburg. After his early death, the area fell to his brother Frederick. In the second Northern War, the country was ravaged and burned the castle. 1669 was followed by the national bankruptcy and the Danish king took over the country.

1679 came the Norburger ownership of the line Schleswig-Holstein -Sonderburg- Plön and went as heir to the two -born son of the Duke Joachim Ernst of Plön, August of Schleswig-Holstein - Plön - Norburg. Since the line Ploen was at the beginning of the 18th century without an heir, was the first son of Duke August, Joachim Friedrich, the new Duke over both gentlemen - appointed - Plön and Norburg. After the death of Duke Joachim Frederick the son of his late brother Christian Charles, Frederick Charles was - who came from a morganatic marriage - in 1722 appointed as the new Ploen and Norburger Duke. The Duchy of Plön he could take over until 1729 because of an inheritance dispute with the line of Schleswig -Holstein -Sonderburg- Plön -Rethwisch. Formally, the last Norburger Duke, he now abandoned in favor of the Danish king to the possession, who took over for all his debts. Thus the Norburger line finally ended.
