The Schlossberg is a 543 m above sea level. NN high hill in the city of Pegnitz River in the Upper Franconian district of Bayreuth, Bavaria.

Geographical location

The Schlossberg is located in the Franconian Switzerland Nature Park Veldenstein Forest in the eastern part of the Franconian Switzerland. It rises just west of the town Pegnitz, in the on the eastern slope of the mountain the Pegnitz springs.

Postal Böheimstein

On the mountain was in the Middle Ages the castle Böheimstein, which belonged to the kingdom of Bohemia from 1357 to 1402. It was destroyed in the Second Margrave War in 1553 by citizens of Nuremberg. Today, only a wall reminiscent of the castle.

Lookout and Natural Heritage

Since 1923, stands on the castle hill a lookout tower with a good view of the city and region. On the southern slope of the mountain is the natural monument of High Rock.
