Schmiech

The Schmiech is an approximately 25 km long left tributary of the Danube in Baden- Württemberg.

Schmiechursprung

The Schmiechquelle is located in a crevice above jumping, one for Schelklinger district Gundershofen belonging hamlet. The Schmiechursprung is a rich karst spring source without pot. It distributes an average of 280 liters per second ( min. 60 l / s, max. 900 l / s ).

Course

In the upper Schmiech the waters eastward flowing through jumping, Gundershofen, Sondernach, cottages, Talsteußlingen, Teuringshofen and Schmiechen. In Talsteußlingen include a historic mill-wheel turns in the Schmiech. This waterwheel was from 1911 to 1985 in the Talsteußlinger mill in operation in 1997 it was restored by the volunteer fire department huts and placed as Schauwasserrad at its present location.

Former pumping station of Albwasserversorgung

In Teuringshofen is a museum with information about the beginning of Albwasserversorgung. Karl Ehmann had this technical cultural monument in 1870 to build, it can be visited on Sundays and by appointment. The pumping station in Teuringshofen is no longer in operation, but the old machines are still available.

The Schmiech in Urdonautal

In Schmiechen the river makes a knee and flows east to the Lutheran mountain pass to the south in the valley of the ancient Danube, opposite to the former direction of flow of the Danube. In the district Allmendingen the Schmiech was renatured by the turn of the millennium in the course of land consolidation Siegental. It meanders along a part of the federal highway 492 which is between Blaubeuren and Ehingen part of the Upper Swabian Baroque Route. At the time of Krötenwanderung of the Schmiech to Schmiechener Lake Special caution is required in this section of road. The restoration measures several toads underpasses and fences were built, so that the situation has since improved somewhat.

The Schmiech flows through Allmendingen where you left the Jump, which rises in a larger karst spring flows. About Berkach reached the Schmiech Ehingen and then flows south into the town of Danube.
