Schmitten, Graubünden
Schmitten (Romansh Ferrera ) is a municipality in the district of Belfort of the district Albula in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland.
The Schmitten is traditionally German. The four other municipalities of the Belfort Brienz / Brinzauls, Surava, Alvaneu Lantsch / Lenz.

Schmitten is a village road on the right side of the Albula valley on the main road between Lenzerheide and Davos.

In the 14th and 15th centuries, the town was settled by Walser from Davos. Despite the Romansh neighboring communities, the proportion of Romansh was always well below 10%. The development in recent decades has shown the table below:
Origin and nationality
From the end of 2005 266 inhabitants were 247 ( = 92.86 %), Swiss nationals.
Traffic
1870-1873 the Landwasserstrasse along the River Country water was built. The road from Brienz over Alvaneu Schmitten, along steep slopes and through larch forests, with deeply incised valleys (called Tobel ) alternating, according to meadows and ends in Davos.
Attractions
Above the village perched picturesquely the Baroque church of All Saints with a magnificent facilities and the Romanesque chapel St.Luzius with late Gothic frescoes.
From this church hill you have a memorable view of the Albula valley. From 1707 built rectory following the Way of the Cross from 1761, whose passion pictures are completely renovated since 1985 again, up to the cemetery, which surrounds the parish church of All Saints and the Chapel of St. Lucius.
In Schmitten there are old mines.
Fusion of the community
There are to merge to form a single community Albula in the context of efforts to merger of municipalities in Graubünden aspirations of all communities in the Albula valley. On March 23, 2013 but a majority of the population of Schmitten refused in a decision in principle. It will now be discussed whether Schmitten with the community Davos to merge than 7 Group community. 2009 had the, east of Schmitten preferred fused to date independent municipality meadows with Davos.
