Schwarzenberg Castle (Saxony)

The Schwarzenberg palace emerged from a medieval fortification and shapes next to St. George's Church, the image of the major district town of Schwarzenberg in Saxony's Erzgebirge District.

Architectural History

The castle was probably founded in the 12th century as a fortification and was the starting point for the colonization of Black Mountain and the surrounding area. The former castle acquired its present shape through a conversion to Electoral Saxon hunting lodge from 1555 to 1558. 1851/52 Keep and south wing of an administration building were increased 1875/76 cultivated.

Museum Schloss Schwarzenberg

In the Schwarzenberg Palace is located since 1954, the Museum of the City of Schwarzenberg. In 1957, the first permanent exhibition was opened to the " Erzgebirge iron ".
