Schwarzer Berg (Jauernick)

The Black Mountain is a 394 m high mountain in Görlitz in Saxony.

Geographical Location

The mountain is located west of the hamlet Jauernick - Buschbach the municipality marker village in Upper Lusatia. With the neighboring Kreuzberg mountain range is also known as Jawor Nicker mountains in the Eastern Upper Lusatia.

History

At the south-west slope of the mountain in 1929 were about 9 barrows, three of which were investigated archaeologically in the years 1930 and 1951, discovered. It could be ensured individual shards and low cremated remains that until a date in the 11th. 12th century allow. Only 4 mounds are preserved. The tumuli could with the sepulcrum ( = tomb ) droszowicoph related to the one mentioned in the Oberlausitzer Border Charter of 1241.

1865 survey point 1st order of Royal Saxon triangulation was set up on the mountain as Station No. 3 Jauernick. The stone pillar still preserved, bears the inscription Astronomical and Geodetic station to Jauernick the Central European arc measurement Prussia 1865.
