Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey

The Turkish Institute for Scientific and Technological Research (Turkish: Türkiye ve Bilimsel Teknolojik Arastirma Kurumu ), based in Ankara, TÜBİTAK abbreviated, is the most important means for the organization of research and development in Turkey.

History

The goal of the President Cemal Gursel founded in 1963 institute is the development, promotion, management and coordination of research and development work in the field of basic and applied sciences. The administratively and financially autonomous institution TÜBİTAK advises the government in establishing the science and technology policy and partly funded the research and development activities of universities and public and private sector. TÜBİTAK also assumes the secretariat services of the " High Council for Science and Technology " (Turkish: Bilim ve Teknoloji Yüksek Kurulu, short BTYK ), which determines the Turkish research policy and consists of the ministers and representatives of the relevant institutions and chaired by the Prime Minister is.

TUBITAK publishes information services, scientific publications and the popular science magazine Bilim ve Teknik. In addition, TUBITAK awards scholarships and prizes and organized annually the Turkish Scientific Olympiads ( Ulusal Bilim Olimpiyatları ).
