Scirpus

Forest - eaves ( Scirpus sylvaticus )

The ledges ( Scirpus, singular: cornices ) is a plant genus which belongs to the family of the Sedge family ( Cyperaceae ).

In Austria, the genre called "Forest rush ". Scirpus is the name of the rush to the Romans. In the Roman playwright Terence, the phrase is nodum in Scirpo quaerere ( " stem node also looking at the rush " ), so look for problems where there are none.

Description

The Scirpus species grow as a perennial herbaceous plant, reaching heights of growth from 30 to 200 cm depending on the type. Some species form from rhizomes. The straws are individually together to many. The stalks are usually triangular and the leaves are usually arranged in three lines. The leaves are borne in basal rosettes or spread on the culm. The shape of the leaves is grassy. Leaf blades have, depending on the type of a length of 11 cm to 80 cm and a width of 0.3 to 2.3 cm. There are usually ligule ( ligules ) are present.

The mostly terminal, sometimes in one to three axillary lateral standing, usually branched inflorescences are almost doldig, korymbos to paniculate. They contain 50 to 500 spikelets, usually with three leaf-like bracts. The diameter of the spikelet is usually less than 3.5 (up to 5 ) mm with 10-50 spirally arranged scales. The lower bracts are larger or equal than the upper. Above each hairless scaly cover sheet is a flower. The flowers are hermaphrodite. The perianth consists of usually three to six bristles or missing rare. The bristles are straight or rotated significantly, smooth, serrated or different bearded, finely hairy back, or rough. There are a present to three stamens. The stylus is rarely two, usually dreiästig.

The three -edged, biconvex or plano -convex achenes are 0.6 to 1.8 mm in size and fluffy hairy. The bristles surround even the mature achenes and can be shorter or much longer than this; they serve to spread the achenes.

System

The genus name Scirpus was in 1753 by Linnaeus in Sp Pl, 1: 47 published.

In recent decades, much of the earlier pertaining to the genus Scirpus species has been converted into several distinct genera ( see, for example Bolboschoenus, Blysmus, Isolepis, Schoenoplectus, Scirpoides, Trichophorum ). Currently, the genus Scirpus includes 35 to 65 species.
