Scolopidia

A Skolopidium (also Scolopidium ) is a sensory cell in arthropods that responds to mechanosensory stimuli. These sensory cell developed in the course of evolution from the Cuticularsensillen and has a characteristic blueprint. The actual mechanoreceptor was moved to the depth and communicates with the cuticle only via auxiliary cells in conjunction. For several Skolopidien the Tympanalorgan of many insects is composed.
