Scolymus maculatus is a species of the genus Scolymus in the sunflower family ( Asteraceae).

Features

Scolymus maculatus is an annual plant. In this way the stems are winged throughout. The edge of the leaves and wings is white and thickened. The uppermost leaves are very regular comb-like - thorny. The corollas are hairy black on the outside and have a length of 15 to 17 millimeters on. The bracts are pointed. A pappus is absent.

Occurrence

Scolymus maculatus occurs in the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands.
