The company was founded in 1990, in anticipation of the planned for the following year privatization of state-owned Scottish Power. April 27, 2006 ScottishPower received permission to build Europe's largest onshore wind farm. The wind farm with an installed capacity of 322 MW, will cost about £ 300 million and extend over an area of 55 sq. km south of Glasgow.
ScottishPower was adopted on 30 March 2007 by the Spanish energy company Iberdrola for 11.6 billion pounds.
