A script referred to in the comic art is a document in which the author of the comic dialogues of the characters, the places, actions and any other information describing the use of the signatories in the graphical implementation of the finished comic.

Also, comic artist, author and illustrator " personal union " are typically create script for the planning of their works. This is especially the case for more extensive comics. In a short strip (as in the example below ), the " script " option simply consist of only a sketch, in which the texts are written into directly.

The comic script similar to the script in the dramaturgy ( for plays ) and the screenplay in film art. There are no fixed rules as to how a script has to be written. In general, everything is allowed, what is conducive to fulfilling its purpose. Some comic book publishers, however, have defined fixed, binding formats for their scripts.

A good script should be neither too vague nor too detailed. On the one hand helps a very specific script to the subscriber, to stay close to the submission of the author, on the other hand it restricts his own creative ideas. Therefore ideal is a balanced middle ground.

Unlike plays, comic scripts are usually not made available to the public, since they represent only a precursor and an internal document (similar to the sketches and preliminary drawings of a painter ). In addition, there is in practice often that the script is still in the process of drawing (in consultation with the author ) undergoes changes.
