Scritti Politti

Scritti Politti are a Welsh New Wave band that was formed in 1978 in Leeds. Main actuator is Green Gartside ( born June 22, 1956 in Cardiff, civil Paul Julian Strohmeyer ).

Name

The name Scritti Politti is regarded as a tribute to the political writings of the Italian Marxist Antonio Gramsci. Although the correct Italian spelling " Scritti Politici " would show up Gartside decided, however, Scritti Politti for because "it would sound more like rock ' n ' roll " that way.

Band History

Green Gartside formed the band at first with Matthew Kay (keyboards, Manager ), Tom Morley (drums) and Nial Jinks (bass ), but in 1980 broke away from the band. At the time of successful albums "Cupid & Psyche " and " commission " the band consisted of Gartside ( singer-songwriter ), David Gamson (co - songwriter, keyboards, programming) and Fred Maher (drums and drum programming ). Gart Sides record label Rough Trade Records was where some British post-punk and alternative rock bands were under contract. With the Fairlight CMI Scritti Politti used as one of the first bands electronic synthesizer with sampling technology.

In June 1985, the second and most successful album, " Cupid & Psyche 85 ," which was produced by Arif Mardin and included musical contributions by many famous artists appeared. The LP reached England in the Top 5 of the charts. For this album five singles including " Perfect Way " were published, which reached number 11 in America. 1986 wrote and produced Green Gartside and David Gamson, the single " Love Of A Lifetime " for Chaka Khan, was the part of the album "Destiny". In 1988, she released the album " commission " on which she collaborated with, among others, Miles Davis and Roger Troutman. After a line of Scritti Politti - Songs " Gettin ', Havin ' and Holdin ' " in 1982 named the Scottish band Wet Wet Wet.
