Seakeeping

The seaworthiness represents the quality of driving and maneuvering of a vessel in the water, as well as its behavior in a seaway.

Play special role in shaping, length, depth and hydrodynamics and gravity position or metacentre of the hull. These parameters affect the stability of the ship in the water, ie its security against excessive rolling, swaying (pitching) and capsize.

A ship is unseaworthy become

  • Repair unfit: if the repair of the vessel is not at all possible, or at the place at which it is located, can not be done or can not be brought to the harbor, where it could be repaired;
  • Repair unworthy when his repair costs - more than 75 % of its previous value would be - without deduction for old and new.

If the ship is at sea due to collision or other serious damage to property or to maneuver the ship unseaworthy, it has to be abandoned by the captain.
