Seatrain Lines

The Seatrain Lines, Inc. was an American shipping company that existed from 1929 to 1981 and including a transatlantic container-line operation.

History

The shipping company founded in New York opened in 1929 with two ferries a rail ferry service between New York and Havana, Cuba. The two vessels initially used, and Seatrain Seatrain New Orleans, and later Seatrain Seatrain New York and Havana, could each carry about 100 loaded railroad cars. Due to political tensions in the early 1960s, the liner service to Cuba had to be stopped.
